Wanted a butterfly, but got a moth.

It is nice to wish for colors. A bright yellow flower, some red roses or a blue sky. The world mostly tends to chase these bright shiny things like a moth to a bright light. It's romanticized and that's okay.

Interestingly, something brown was fluttering its small wings into my room and landed on my desk. It was a moth with long antlers. I had mixed feelings… I didn't shoo it away, rather I stared at it while holding on to my fear of it coming to haunt me. I took a breath, told myself and the moth, "You Are Okay !" Down went my fear.

As humans, we don't want judgement. As psychologists, we preach unconditional love, but on the other hand, we are social animals. We tend to compare and evaluate our position, role and purpose in the world. This is done with constant comparison with others.

While discussing this, four words came to me. They are "I, THEY, OKAY, NOT-OKAY.” Porter(1981) says, when we welcome okayness and when we are just Being ourselves, all the beliefs, thoughts, and fantasies about being okay or not okay will lose their power.

“Your okayness is not up for question,” says Porter (1981). Coming back to the okayness of the moth, I told myself. The moth is okay for existing and I am okay for wishing for a butterfly. In the end, we both existed peacefully in our corners, just being okay!

having said that, I invite everyone who questions their okayness to take a step back and give permission to exist freely in this world. No matter how strangled your situation is, you have the capacity to cherish, strengthen, push through, and nurture while being kind to yourself.
